7.3 Flexion turn carved
With the flexion carved turn, also called down unweighted turn, we can snowboard more dynamically. This is ideal on bumpy slopes or in a situation where you want to turn very quickly. This technique is also required for laydown carves.
Making a carved down unweighted turn
The main advantage of the carved flexion turn is that you come out of the turn in a low position and can push yourself out of the turn very early on. You will also need this technique for the laydown carves. Basically, you start in a high position, then go into a low position before the edge change and then extend yourself again.
When to use a down unweighted turn
You usually turn in a low position when the slope is a little uneven, when you can't judge the condition of the slope or on narrow paths. With the low position, you are very stable and can also turn very quickly. Ultimately, it's a play of different riding styles that you can use on the slope, combined with your own preferences.
Other ways to carve more dynamically
If you have not yet looked at high carving edges, take a look at the following module 7.2 Extension turn carved
A low turn is a prerequisite for your first laydown carves. So if you have the flexion turn under control, it's best to continue with it right away 7.3.1 Eurocarve (FS / Duckstance)
